The Do Hit Chair by Droog Design is a a cube made with 0.4? thick steel. To mold your own chair, just grab a sledgehammer and start beating the hell out of it. Once you’re happy with the design, take a rest from the exertion by grabbing a seat on your new chair. The cost of a Do It Chair is a huge turn-off though. $6718 for a pre-hammered chair and $5924 for your non-hammered piece of steel. |

Greenpix is a Zero Energy Media Wall in Beijing created by Simone Giostra & Partners and the Arup folks. It’s been added to the curtain wall of the Xicui entertainment complex near the site of the 2008 Olympic Games. It mixes the largest color LED display technology with a photovoltaic system which means that the wall burns the only energy it harvests during the day. |

If Barbie’s Dreamhouse had to suffer through an earthquake, what might her bookshelf end up looking like? That must have been on the minds of Swedish designers Smånsk. They showed a prototype of their Skew bookcase at the Greenhouse young designers showcase at the Stockholm Furniture Fair last month. Up until recently, an image of stability and order, bookshelves seem to be the muse for ever increasing wacky designs by product designers the world over. These “Skew” modular bookshelves are alternately stacked Lego style giving a much needed dose of action to your otherwise boring book collection. Watch them slide towards your “alternative lifestyle” collection of severed heads and tingle at the possibility of a serious paper cut. |
