If Barbie’s Dreamhouse had to suffer through an earthquake, what might her bookshelf end up looking like? That must have been on the minds of Swedish designers Smånsk. They showed a prototype of their Skew bookcase at the Greenhouse young designers showcase at the Stockholm Furniture Fair last month. Up until recently, an image of stability and order, bookshelves seem to be the muse for ever increasing wacky designs by product designers the world over.

These “Skew” modular bookshelves are alternately stacked Lego style giving a much needed dose of action to your otherwise boring book collection. Watch them slide towards your “alternative lifestyle” collection of severed heads and tingle at the possibility of a serious paper cut.

Have you ever noticed how fruit seems to go bad faster in a bowl? It’s true! Some uber-chemical process with gases occurs just from the fruit touching each other. The Portafrutta remedies thats problem by using 35 individually laser cut pieces of wood to form peaks and valleys. The design strategically spreads fruit out without too much contact between them. Even without fruit there’s a nice sculptural quality to it.

A bathtub is obviously for bathing, and a hot tub is obviously for more recreational use and relaxing. Barely a difference here right? Well Teuco does not see too much of a difference either and has married the two with their latest creation. Highlighted by a seamless sunken profile and fitted with 8 Hydrosilence whirlpool jets, the tub’s function is super quiet to ensure a tranquil experience.

You can also enjoy the benefits of a control panel or remote control operation, underwater lighting, a magnetic headrest, and a pull-out shower with a flexible hose. It fills automatically and treats the water with its internal filtration system. Plastic battleships not included.
